The Wine Route Tacoronte-Acentejo
is a project which has arisen in an area which has always been linked to the land, farming and wine. It is part of the Designation of Origin Tacoronte Acentejo of the same name, to the north of Tenerife. It is the largest and densest in the Canary Islands, with around 2.500 ha of vineyards from the coast to the mountains. Its excellent conditions, particularly the weather (influence of the trade winds with warm temperatures practically all year around), make it one of the best places in the archipelago, in the world even, for growing grapes and making wine.

This Designation of Origin comprises nine boroughs. Tegueste, Tacoronte, El Sauzal, La Matanza de Acentejo, La Victoria de Acentejo, Santa Úrsula, La Laguna, El Rosario and Santa Cruz. (The Anaga sub-zone, in the Anaga Rural Park, is also inside the Designation and forms part of the boroughs of La Laguna, Santa Cruz and Tegueste.) It was the first Designation of Origin to be recognised in the Canarian Autonomous Region and a pioneer in different production processes such as carbonic maceration and ageing. It is characterised by a predominance of varieties such as Listan Negro and Negramoll, among others like Tintilla, Listan Blanco, malmsey, Gual, Marmajuelo,… they are all practically unique traditional Canary Island varieties. The Regulatory Council is responsible for guaranteeing the quality and origin of the wine. With its strict controls, it has achieved the deserved recognition afforded today to Tacoronte-Acentejo within the Canary Islands and elsewhere.

As this is eminently a farming district with a history closely linked to vines, several boroughs belonging to it like El Sauzal, La Laguna, Tacoronte and Tegueste, with the collaboration and commitment of the Regulatory Council and other private agents, have decided to create a tourist route based on a vineyard and wine theme. "The Wine Route Tacoronte Acentejo" is today the first in the Canary Islands to be certified as a “Spanish Wine Route” by the Secretariat General of Tourism and ACEVIN (Spanish Association of Wine Cities), guaranteeing the quality standards found in the infrastructures and services provided by its associated firms and establishments.

This Route is an invitation to get to know a land which successfully combines its customs and traditions, the passing of time and new technologies. You will find large, cutting-edge wineries and small family businesses, each of them with its unique charm and personality. We invite you to enjoy its vines, its rich cultural heritage and its landscape, together with a wide range of leisure activities (beaches, walking paths, culinary workshops, monitored wine tasting sessions, popular festivities and markets, etc.). During your visit, you will be able to savour excellent wines with a distinguished traditional and creative cuisine, in an incomparable setting which also provides a singular and wide range of accommodation possibilities.

“The Wine Route Tacoronte Acentejo” has been conceived for those who not only wish to enjoy new experiences but also who would like to discover them for themselves and for those who would rather visit new places led by qualified guides who will make sure that your stay is unforgettable.
